Hardly anyone owns their own car in Bihar. And so you hitch a ride on a bus or in a communal taxi, sometimes standing for long stretches of time, sometimes perched on the roof. Even on the highway.
It was raining, and some of the pictures reflect drops on the windshield.
Into the seven-hour-long trip we passed an elephant, with rider astraddle, in the middle of the street! These pictures didn't turn out too well, but you get the idea...
That looks dangerous. Dangerous for poor elephant and for everyone. Elephant on the street. Are people prepared for that? Drivers don't go very fast? Are work elephants common? How are the elephants generally treated?
